Program Overview:

The Mandela Rhodes Scholarship combines financial support with a leadership experience that challenges scholars to grow while networking with like-minded young African changemakers. This program allows students from all African countries to pursue postgraduate education in South Africa. Scholars are equipped with the courage and competence to make the African continent a place that offers everyone equal opportunity to thrive. The program is primarily delivered through different week-long workshops that scholars attend during residence. Eligibility: 

​

• Have citizenship from an African Country

• Demonstrate that by January 1, 2026, you will have an undergraduate degree with excellent academic results

• Be between the ages 19 and 29 the year you apply for the program

• Demonstrate that you can study at a postgraduate level in English.

• Have a track record of ethical leadership and service activity in your communities.

• Be passionate about addressing key issues on the African Continent and leading change in your country

Note: 

If you are not admitted into a South African Institution of Higher education, you cannot accept this scholarship if awarded. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you apply early to multiple universities in South Africa for a specific degree program to accept this scholarship even if you were not admitted at your first-choice school.
